Too Hot!?

Good Saturday Morning!

Yesterday was a scorcher, so I didn’t start dyeing until evening.  This was my outside local temperature mid-afternoon:

Since I live in an older mobile home, sitting in a north-south orientation, I have a long west side without shade against the afternoon sun.  My window unit cooler works in the living room, but the kitchen was still too warm for steaming yarns.  It was after midnight when I was able to get it all done.  I could blame it on old age, but I’m pretty sure it was just heat exhaustion.  Got done, slept (sort of), and feeling much more like myself this morning.  I am definitely going to change my routines to allow myself more time to do things.

So, anyway here we have the results of yesterday’s dyeing.  Most are fairly unremarkable this time — mostly focused on color variety and various dye techniques — but there are a few interesting pairing combinations:

I think #679-680 would pair well with #683-684, for example;  #693-694 would make a great striping combination with #695-696;  and #697-698 would do well with #701-702.

I finished the session with a couple true DumpDyes at the end (#699-700 and 701-702).  One pair done with all the red-adjacent dyes remaining and the other with all the blue-adjacent dyes mixed with a gold to create mostly green, but there are tiny blue speckles.

These are all on Phydlbitz Sock 2.0  (75/25 Superwash 25-micron Merino/Nylon, 460 yards) and normally $28.00.  For Saturday and Sunday, visitors are invited to claim any two or more yarns for just $26.00 each (you may include selections from the Blog Reader Specials page for this price).

To claim the ones you want, just shoot me an email (ray@knitivity.com).  I’ll mark your requests off the Available Yarns table above the pictures, then send you a PayPal invoice.  It’s okay if you don’t have a PayPal account — they will process your credit or debit card payment just fine.

I expect to have these dried and ready to ship on or about Wednesday.

Six of One, Half-Dozen of the Other

Happy Saturday!

First off, I want to welcome the newest subscribers to this Knitivity Insider announcement list.  If you’re reading this on the Blog, please consider signing up.  It’s free, and I promise not to fill your inbox with a lot of emails.  I send out roughly one announcement each week, and only to show off my newest collection of hand-dyed yarns.  I mostly dye sock yarns, but sometimes a collection of lace, sport, or worsted weight yarns might appear.  And the Knitivity Insiders will always get a better Preview Pricing deal.

Most weeks I use a variety of dye techniques, but this week I stayed with just two methods.

On Rack 1, all the yarns were dyed with a sprinkle-spray of one color, followed by a dip bath or ‘wash’.   Twinset #655-656 is a mix of sky blue and gray with a powder blue wash. On #657-658 I did a heavy sprinkled of both navy and gold, followed with a clear wash.  #659-660 is a straight red sprinkle with a powder pink wash; #661-662 is a peacock blue with a powder blue wash; #663-664 is a gold sprinkle and pale yellow wash.  Twinset #665-666 is a dual sprinkle of peacock and teal, again with a powder blue wash.

Rack 2 features a whole rack of solidly-solid dyes which I think came out excellently this time.  Sometimes my solids look like kettle dyes, but this week’s collection doesn’t seem to have much variation at all.  Part of this is due to how much dye I used, and partly due to how long I saturated the yarn in the dye bath.   These will, of course, make excellent socks as well as your lace work and other textured knitting.  Also, these are the ones you want to combine with multi-color yarns as strong contrast for stranded knitting.

These are all on Phydlbitz Sock 2.0 (75/25 Superwash 25-micron Merino/Nyon, 460 yards each), and normally retail for $28.00 each.  For Saturday and Sunday, visitors are invited to take any two or more skeins for $26.00 each.

To claim the ones you want, just send me an email with your numbered selections.  I will marked your selections from the Available Yarns table just above the images and then send you a PayPal invoice.

I expect to have these dried, reskeined, and ready to ship on or about Wednesday.

And Solo Skeins, Too!

Happy Saturday to you!

I used the Superwash Merino worsted weight this week.  Because of the yardage that comes on some of the cones, I was able to pull up 28 skeins this week, and chose to make a few Solo skeins, along with mostly Twinsets.

And while most of the yarns this week were dyed with a single color, a few came from pre-blended dyes leftover from last week’s leftover colors.   Like #636-637 is leftover blackened-red from last week.

Twinset #638-639 is from a dye jar labeled “Fluorescent Red”.  Into the remaining dye in the bath I added chestnut to create Twinset #647-648.

There are two different kinds of purple this week — #650-651 is a deep rich solid, while the Solo #627 allowed me to capture the remaining purple dye in the bath, so it isn’t quite as deep and rich.

Most of the yarns are solid or nearly-solid, but some look like kettle dyes. There are several fades as well, such as #630-631, which is a fade of the leftover dye from #644-645.  And #632-633 is a fade from the remaining dye in the bath after dyeing #646-647.

As I mentioned, these are all 100% Superwash Merino, worsted wt., 220 yards each, and will be $28.00 on the Blog Reader Specials page.  For Saturday and Sunday, visitors are invited to select any two or more skeins for just $26.00 at Preview Pricing.

To claim the ones you want, just send me an email .  I’ll mark your request off the Available Yarns table shown below, and then send a PayPal invoice.  Even if you don’t have a PayPal account, you can still use your debit or credit card and they will process it for me so I never see your payment method or personal account information.

I expect to have these ready to ship on or about Wednesday this coming week.

Fade to Black?

Happy Sunday!

Yesterday as I was preparing to dye, an idea ricocheted around my mind a little while.  Finally as I was lining up the yarns and dyes and work space it occurred to me how to make it happen.  The result:  Fade to Black.  Various colors in a regular fade process, but instead of fading to paleness like most of my fade dyes, how about fading into black?

I’m pretty sure I’m not the first one to see the vision of the finished yarns, but *how* to make it happen was a new-to-me direction.  I tried it with several different colors, with varying success.  Most of them came out degrees of dark-dark  charcoal, not nearly as black as I wanted.

Now that I have the general idea, I can move forward to perfecting my technique and making a darker blackety-black. Even so, I think the lot of them are beautiful.

There are also some black-banded dye jobs —  #611-612 and 621-622 — with a black band at the center of the hank, and assorted colors on either side of it.

The last Twinset of this week (#625-626) is a true DumpDye — I used the remains of all the blue-adjacent dyes I’d prepared for the session.

Not every combination will tickle every knitter, but they are all pretty marvelous, if I do say so myself.  Considering the coloring, it should be possible to pick any two or more combinations to create a stunning shawl or sweater.

These are all Phydlbitz Sock 2.0 (75/25 Superwash 25-micron Merino/Nylon, 460 yards) and are normally $28.00.  For Sunday and Monday, visitors are invited to claim one or more matching Twinsets from this week’s collection (BRS26 – #603 – 626) for just $26.00 per skein.

To claim the ones you want, just send me an email with your numbered requests.  I will mark your requests from the Available Yarns list (below) and then send you a PayPal invoice.  If you are outside the U.S., please let me know.

I expect to have these ready to ship by Thursday.
